MEGAN YATES

Megan offers professional voice lessons and performance coaching in the Salt Lake City, UT area and internationally via Skype. As a Certified Advanced Instructor with the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) and with 10 years of intensive teacher training, she has dedicated herself to helping singers, dancers, and actors of all levels to achieve their vocal and performance goals. She covers foundational vocal technique, auditioning, stylization, and equips her singers with the tools they need to become skilled musicians and true performers. For more information on the IVA technique, click here.

Megan’s vocal background lies in a technique that allows the voice to be even and strong from bottom to top, full of agility, freedom, and flexibility. She began studying in 2008 with Master Teachers Linda Tomkinson (SLC, UT), Jeffrey Skouson (Las Vegas, NV), Guy Babusek (LA, CA), Spencer Welch (Vancouver, CA), Stephanie Borm-Kruger (Germany) and Greg Enriquez (Las Vegas, NV) as well as style coaching with Glady's Knight's writer/arranger John Fluker and performance coaching with Rhonda Carlson (Las Vegas, NV). She spent the last two years living in NYC auditioning and living the performer life. While there, she worked personally with countless Broadway casting directors, agents, and revered acting/performance coaches. Because she has been in the business, she carries a unique edge to be able to bring on an arsenal of knowledge to her students.

She earned her Bachelors Degree at BYU where she studied Music Dance Theater, Family Studies, Communication Disorders and Minored in Music. She performed professionally as Kim in Show Boat at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, MA, and in the National Tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Some of her most favorite roles include "Lucie Manette" A Tale of Two Cities, “Emma Carew” Jekyll and Hyde, "Cosette" Les Miserables, and "Evelyn Nesbit" Ragtime. In her college years, she loved touring internationally and nationally with the BYU Young Ambassador to Scandinavia and cities across the U.S. 2008-2010.

Megan is completely dedicated to her students and wants to aid them in learning to sing with complete functional freedom so they are equipped with the tools they need to do whatever they want with music!  Ultimately this allows them to focus on the real reason for music- to communicate and share emotion! She is insanely passionate about teaching and communicating through music and will share that confidence, charisma, and motivation with each of her students.
